Where Can You — and Where Should You — Buy Window Coverings?

Do you need window shades for your home? Even if you know what sort of window coverings you need, you’ll still want to figure out what specific types you want. The reason is, of course, that there are different options in each window covering category. So if you know you want Truckee, CA window shades, the next step is to find out what types of window shades to get.

This brings up an important question – where should you go to get your window shades? While there are various places you can go to, one of them makes the most sense.

Big Box StoreOne popular option is to get window coverings at a big box store. They have a lot of products in lots of different product categories. This can seem appealing in some ways since you can do much of your shopping in one place. But stores that are jacks of all trades don’t tend to be experts in any of those trades. They tend to be generalists who know a little bit about a lot of things. What this means is that you won’t usually find staff who are experts in any product category. That will be a negative if you have a lot of questions and want expert advice.

General Retail OutletAnother option is to go to a general retail outlet like a department store. Yes, you can find great products at such places. But the problem with such an option is similar to the problem with heading to a big box store. In other words, the fact that a general retailer has lots of different products in lots of different product categories usually means that the staff are not specialists. That might not be a big deal if you already know what you want and know what to buy. But if you want help in weighing your options, then you might be out of luck at a general retailer.

Online StoreWith the popularity of online shopping, many people are perfectly fine with doing their buying online. It can be convenient, can sometimes be cheaper, and can open up a wealth of options. But when you buy online, you won’t have the opportunity to personally inspect and handle the product before it’s delivered to you. If you know exactly what you want, then that might worry you. However, if you end up finding fault with what you do buy, you’ll have to go through the trouble of sending it back. And that’s only if the online retailer accepts returns.

Window Covering SpecialistAnother option, and arguably the best option, is to go with a window coverings specialist. Such a retailer focuses on window coverings, so you can trust them with your window coverings needs. When you go to a showroom, you’ll find all types of window coverings as well as knowledgeable staff who are able to answer your questions and to make recommendations.
